As the co-founder and CEO of Glowbar, your days are super busy. When do you carve out time for self-care?
One of the things I realized after about 5 months of Glowbar being open was that I really had to SCHEDULE my time to take care of myself. I no longer had the flexibility to be like "I may go to the gym later" or "I'll cook a healthy dinner tomorrow night"--it just truly wouldn't happen. So, I added two things to my calendar:
Holds on Monday and Tuesday nights from 7:00 onwards where I didn't allow myself to make plans. This way, I guarantee myself a home-cooked meal which is always how I eat best.
I schedule two morning holds for exercise. These boundaries have really helped me feel more like "me" while adjusting to a crazy schedule!
What are some of your favorite healthy delivery orders?
If you find healthy delivery, let me know ;) But for real, sometimes if I'm craving Chinese food, I'll order steamed shrimp and broccoli and ask for a side of General Tso sauce to dip. Years ago on WW, I learned that asking for a dip on the side cuts down your intake by 50%. SAVIOR.
What helps keep you mentally grounded?
Therapy, positive affirmations, meditation, my 5-minute journal, and my dog!
Do you cook during the week? What are some of your go-to quick, healthy dinners?
I LOVE cooking at home and it's really the only way I maintain my health and weight, something I've always struggled with. I have three meals on rotation that I love and leave me satiated while also not restricted! The first is this pizza spaghetti squash pie that’s a favorite among my friends (add a little parmesan and use Rao's sauce!). The other is just a taco salad bowl but instead of sour cream I use 0% Fage and top it with yummy things like pickled jalapeños and Tostitos salsa which is so not gourmet but it's my fave. And the other meal I love to make is this Chicken and artichoke dish by one of my favorite food bloggers The Skinny Taste! It looks way more gourmet than it really is and guests are always impressed!
“I’ve learned that I like when the workouts are different because it keeps my mind engaged - who knew?!”
We love that Glowbar offers 30-minute custom facials--it speaks to us because most ah.mi members have such busy lives! What are some other quick tips we can add to our routine to get glowing skin?
WATER, WATER, WATER! Our skin is a reflection of what's going on internally so I cannot emphasize how important hydration is! Also, sleep, but I know some people struggle with that. Outside of that, I want everyone to simplify their skincare routine! As a whole, people are over-exfoliating and it's resulting in a weak skin barrier (i.e. redness, sensitivity, etc.). Simplify your routine to: cleanse, tone, treat, moisturize, SPF, and you'll be glowing in no time!
