Lindy
Lindy is from South Florida, and loves Florida summers (hey, nothing beats the amazing beach days, stormy afternoons, and late sunsets!). She does product development and merchandising for a chocolate company, meaning her desk is filled with samples that need to be tasted. So yeah, she has to work extra, extra hard to keep a balance diet ;) Lindy joined ah.mi because she needed a push to get healthy, and she stays motivated to work out by playing sports. Volleyball, water skiing, tennis, cardio boxing, she’s game for anything!
How many times a week do you aim to work out?
Ever since ah.mi, my goal is to work out 3 days a week—formal workouts (meaning an effort to really pump it).
On a normal week, what do your workouts consist of?
It varies, but I like to run outside, do a hot core or yoga class, and then a sport. Lately, it’s been tennis.
What are some of your healthy food staples for breakfast, lunch, and dinner?
Anything with peanut butter/almond butter, but usually it’s a banana or apple. Also, really into hummus and carrots. One of my favorites is just cutting up a beef steak tomato and putting salt and pepper on it—soo good.
I am not the best at packing myself lunch every day. Since I already do it for my kids, I run out of steam for myself. This means that lunch is usually a salad from Offerdahl’s, a healthy bowl, or even a Starbucks lunch, which is seriously the best--coffee and lunch at the same time!
Dinner favorite when I want to stay on track: chickpeas, avocado, cut-up peppers, feta, rice wine vinegar, a little bit of olive oil, salt, and white pepper. Or chicken shish kabobs from Fresh Market and roasted broccoli with olive oil, salt, and pepper.
“The best thing about ah.mi is that it held me accountable for working out, eating well, and ultimately making smarter decisions.”
Do you have a self-care ritual?
I love nothing more then standing in my kitchen like a perched flamingo, snacking on some of my favorites without really making a plate. I do this once a week, and it’s my way of letting myself go. Or froyo-vanilla/chocolate swirl with chocolate sprinkles while sitting on the couch watching a show. America’s Got Talent has me every season, and I may or may not be a fan of the Hallmark Channel…
How has committing to being healthy with a friend helped you?
The best thing about ah.mi is that it held me accountable for working out, eating well, and ultimately making smarter decisions. And since I was doing it with friends, I had no choice but to get on board.
I needed a push to get back on track, so once I committed, I wasn’t going to let everyone else go on feeling good and looking amazing while I just sat there and watched. Also, I am totally motivated by being a part of something with other people, so it made it fun to constantly be checking in.
For me, ah.mi is a lifestyle change, a new standard that I want to hold myself to, so I feel my very best. I will always eat my chocolate and have my bagels, but now I have a “baseline,” and I know how to get back to that if I stray for a meal or two.
